The getKanban Board Game is a physical board game designed to teach the concepts and mechanics of Kanban for software development in a class or workshop setting. It has been described as the most effective way to teach Kanban. It’s hands-on, engaging, and fun.
How does it work?
The game is played in teams of four to six people, one game per team. Each team has a playing board representing a Kanban task board, and a collection of story cards representing work to be done. The game is played over a simulated 13 days during which the teams compete to maximise net profit by optimizing the flow of work.
During the game the teams construct two key charts based on data from the game – a Cumulative Flow Diagram, and a Statistical Process Control Chart. Simulated events occur throughout the game to challenge the teams and require them to make prioritisation and resource allocation decisions.
The Facilitator’s Guide and Game Instructions fully describe how the game operates.
